Jake Shears, “Creep City” is a Staff Fav

Shockingly enough, this song has made our playlist and is on repeat. Sooooo, naturally we had to share it with you!

Hello Friends and Family! It’s been awhile.  Like—a long while.  But lord, I’ve been missing you guys.  Like—REALLY MISSING YOU.  I’ve missed playing shows for you in funky clothes that I look back later and say: “What in God’s name was I thinking?” I’ve missed sweating on the front row.  I’ve missed everybody singing along and whooping it up.

Above all else, I’ve missed putting out new music.  And that, my dear friends, changes today!  Let me introduce you to Creep City.

Creep City is a pretty theatrical jam, with quite a few twists and turns. It has all the touchstones of the sound I’ve been conjuring. It’s a song about being in a literally scary transition, reflecting a moment of my life when I found myself without my long time co-horts, without New York City, having to reassess my surroundings.

I’ve not put out much out the last five years, (musically that is) other than a collaboration here or there. The thing is, I’ve been working this whole time.  But I promised myself that I would only put something out if it was really good. I mean REALLY good. There were a few years that I didn’t quite know what I wanted to say, unsure of direction, but I had faith if I kept at it, all would be revealed.

In the fall of 2015, I moved to New Orleans part-time. I needed a change of scene, and it’s a city I’ve always wanted to live in. I went down and began writing there and something funny happened: The good stuff started coming. And it kept coming. With the help of many talented musicians, I’ve been able to create the record I’ve been shooting for my whole life. It’s not only the most personal thing I’ve made, I truly believe it’s the best thing I’ve made. There was a moment in time,  that I really wasn’t interested in making a solo record. I found the notion a little cheesy. But I was talking with a friend one day and he said: “There’s no issue with you making a solo record– as long as it’s fantastic.”  I took that to heart.

There’s so much more to come in the next year, but I couldn’t wait any longer to give you a taste. If you want to hear more, I’ll be playing it all in NYC on Nov 12th at Elsewhere (tix here), and in London Nov 14th at Heaven (tix here). Please come, I want to celebrate with you.

And my time hasn’t been spent just making music. I’ve also  completed another labor of love that I’ll share details on shortly. AND will soon be announcing another way that we can spend a couple hours in a room together in a way that we’ve never done before. It’s the big ‘ol slew of stuff.

So I invite you to come along with me in my new ride. It’s gonna be a little different, but isn’t it always?  For those of you who have been waiting patiently, I have a feeling that this is gonna do the trick and then some. The cool thing, is that we’ve already had so many great times together, and as the saying goes: “You can’t make old friends.”

The world is upside down right now. In the thick of it, I feel that we still need tunes that make us smile, that make us wanna sing and dance like fools. The power of coming together and finding some common ground can’t be underestimated. Let’s have some goddamn fun.

I love you,

Jake Shears

Grammys 2017: The Beyonce, Adele, and Chance The Rapper Takeover

This is not for the meek. We are going to keep it all the way real and go all the way in. Brace yourself as this will be a session of Grammy Truth 101.

  1. The Grammys were waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too LONG!
  2. Paris Jackson looked so Basic
  3. Adele STORMED the night  with her wins but left her singing voice in the Limo
  4. Beyonce’ was Utter Slayage
  5. Bruno Mars KILLED the Prince tribute
  6. Chance The Rapper was on a whole nother Level
  7. Solange looked amazing for her 37 seconds of airtime
  8. Katy Perry was Awesome
  9. J. Lo is a Sex Goddess and her dress was oh so perfect on her
  10. Jason Derulo looked like he was at a Ski Resort
  11. John Leged was awesome
  12. Neil Diamond still has it
  13. Faith Hill looked so Beautiful

Now that that is out of the way, let’s get down to Business.

Jay-Z and Blue Ivy looked so cute in their evening attire. It has been said that Blue Ivy was channeling her inner Prince with the Gucci effect.

Everyone on our timeline was waiting for Beyonce to hit the stage. In all honesty, all we remember prior to that is Chance the Rapper winning a lot of awards (Best New Artist, Best Rap Album, Best Rap Performance). LoL!

When Beyonce hit the stage a lot of fans were confused by her effect. Some were praising the Goddess look and others were wanting her to try again. While scrolling down twitter we found the following explanation for the effect and thought it was interesting enough to share.

Now, on to the effect:

What are your thoughts on the effect Queen-Yonce gave???

As we move to the main awards for the night, at least in our opinion.

  • Album Of The Year- Adele
  • Song of the Year- Adele
  • Record of the Year- Adele

Chileeeeeeee, when this came out the Bey-Hive went into a stir. No shade to Adele, “Hello” was an amazing song and “25” was a dope album, however, “Lemonade” SLAYED for the Music GODZZZZZ and was the Talk of Pop Culture for months. Fans felt Bey was shaded by the Grammy Panel. Take a look at the reaction from Gabrielle Union after the Adele streak:

Your Thoughts????

Furthermore, some interesting facts were dropped on twitter last night. Not that everything is race driven, however, this breakdown made us wonder:

Though Rihanna took home no awards, the Navy showed out with their support for her outfit. No shade, the top was cute, but the skirt could have stayed on the table she pulled it off of.

We love us some Ri-Ri, but the skirt is def on our No Go list.

In any case, we didn’t see Kelly Rowland but thanks to Solange we got to see her at the after party. Haaaaaaaaay Kelly!

All in all, the Grammys were way too long for no reason at all. Congrats to all the Winners and those who received Nominations. And, in honor of the award giving, our Favorite Pics of the Night Award goes to……….

What are your thoughts on the 2017 Grammys? Good, Bad, or Indifferent.

Q. Parker and the Birthday Gift from #TSB

In other news, today was an Instagram scroll day. This means that the entire team was up and down our Timelines trying to find the Highlights of the Day. What better than a Birthday?????

One of the members of the famed group 112 had a birthday and the other group members were posting pics and spreading Birthday Wishes. To our luck, we scrolled across this:

I swear we didn’t want to be petty but this picture just kept looking at us. Can you please explain to us why the photographer couldn’t shade in the bottom of Q. Parker’s shoes????? No shade, but if you have on a $1500 suit, you can at least, rent a shoe for the shoot.

Sitting there lookin like he got on the Easter Sunday shoes from 2015. The amount he saved on socks he could have spent on Soul Refresher.

With the spirit of giving in mind on his special day. From all of us here as TrueSlamBook.com, we Wish Q. Parker a very Happy Birthday. Here’s our gift:
